What is Dermaplaning and What Does It Do?
Our Dermaplaning modality is a highly effective exfoliating treatment that uses a small scalpel to gently remove the top-most layer of dead skin from your face along with the fine, vellus hair commonly known as peach fuzz.
Dermaplaning reveals a smoother, brighter complexion underneath, allowing skincare products to penetrate more deeply and makeup to apply more seamlessly. It also rejuvenates the skin, making it look more radiant and feel softer and smoother.

What Are the Benefits of Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning treatment offers many benefits for your face and skin to promote improved appearance and better overall skin health, such as:
- Exfoliation: Removes dead skin cells, revealing a fresher, healthier layer of skin underneath.
- Smoother Texture: Gets rid of peach fuzz for a smoother, more refined skin texture.
- Enhanced Skincare Absorption: Allows skincare products to penetrate more deeply, improving their efficacy.
- Brighter Complexion: Uncovers new, healthy skin and imparts a natural glow by reducing the appearance of dull, tired skin.
- Fine Line Reduction: Minimizes the appearance of fine lines over time.
- Improved Makeup Application: Eliminates peach fuzz and dead skin cells so makeup applies more smoothly and evenly, creating a flawless finish.

What Should I Expect During My Dermaplaning Appointment?
Upon arrival at our Flower Mound spa, you will be greeted by one of our Mod Facial skincare specialists, who will discuss your specific concerns and assess your skin type. Your face will then be thoroughly cleaned to remove any makeup and oils.
Once the treatment begins, your esthetician will move the sterile scalpel across the surface of your skin using gentle, upward strokes, removing dead skin cells and peach fuzz. After the treatment, soothing and hydrating products will be applied to your skin to calm any redness and provide moisture. The process is finished by applying a moisturizer and sunscreen to protect and hydrate your skin.
The treatment is painless, and you may feel a gentle scraping sensation. You can immediately return to your regular activities, but your skin may appear slightly red and feel sensitive.
In addition to your Dermaplaning treatment, all Mod Facial services include the following:
- Skin analysis
- Steam
- Optional extractions
- Hot Towels
- Oxygen Serum/Mask
- Massage
Please note: Our Mod Facial Dermaplaning service is equivalent to two individual modalities. See our Facials page for more information and pricing.
Is Dermaplaning Right For Me?
Dermaplaning is a safe and effective treatment for most skin types and tones, particularly if you have dry or rough skin texture. It is particularly beneficial for those looking to improve the application of makeup and the absorption of skincare products.
However, Dermaplaning may not be right for those with active acne, extremely sensitive skin, or certain skin conditions, as it may cause irritation. Call our team of Mod Facial skincare professionals to assess your skin’s specific needs and determine whether Dermaplaning is the best option for you.
Dermaplaning FAQs
Q. Is Dermaplaning painful?
A. Dermaplaning is a pain-free procedure. Some people may experience a slight tingling sensation, but it is generally well-tolerated.
Q. How often can I get Dermaplaning done?
A. It is typically recommended to have Dermaplaning done every 3-4 weeks, allowing the skin to complete its normal rejuvenation cycle. Ask us about our Mod Facial Membership, the best way to prioritize your self-care and save on recurring treatments.
Q. Can I wear makeup after Dermaplaning?
A. It is generally best to allow your skin to rest and breathe for at least a few hours post-treatment before applying makeup.
Q. Will my hair grow back thicker or darker after Dermaplaning?
A. No, Dermaplaning will not alter the structure or color of your vellus hair (peach fuzz). It will grow back at the same texture and rate.
Q. Is there any downtime after Dermaplaning?
A. There is no downtime required after Dermaplaning, but your skin may be more sensitive to the sun, so applying sunscreen is crucial.
